Stephen Lynch was elected the Congressman of the 8th District, defeating challenger Joseph Selvaggi Tuesday night by a landslide.
Lynch was a popular choice across the district’s 24 cities and towns. The South Boston Democrat received 75 percent of the District’s vote compared to Selvaggi who received 25 percent, according to election results from CBS news.
Lynch said he believes his campaign efforts of going door to door paid off in the election.
"I did extremely well in all the new towns," Lynch said. " I worked really hard and I'm really honored to represent the new 8th District."
Lynch, a former ironworker and lawyer who has represented the 9th District since 2001, will now represent the new 8th District which runs from Bridgewater to Quincy to Boston and includes eight new cities and towns.
Lynch called Selvaggi after the race to congratulate him on running a strong and clean campaign.
